Ralph Sweet of the Sweetheart Flute Co. said that they
will be making some Blackwood whistles in their new “Pro model” (both with and
without Silver rings); these should be available
around Christmas-time.
This beautiful Rosewood Whistle is made by Ralph Sweet
of the Sweetheart Flute Company. Mr. Sweet pays great attention to detail, and it shows in
the quality of his work. It is approx. 12" long, and tuned to the key of
"D" (D and G are the most popular for traditional Irish music, this whistle
plays easily in both keys).
It is tunable, and is made of African
Blackwood. It also has two decorative Sterling Silver rings.
It has a narrow, curved windway and produces a beautiful,
flute-like tone in its entire two octave range.
Sweetheart whistles are very strong in the lower
register (even the low D is very solid). If you're looking for a whistle with the volume
to keep up with other instruments in sessions this may be a good choice.
