Slow Session at The Whistle Shop
Hi All,
It looks like we won't be getting together again until sometime in January. I won't be available to host the Slow Session on Dec. 18th, then Christmas Day is the following Saturday. The first Saturday of January is New Years Day, so we'll probably shoot for either Saturday Jan. 8th, or Saturday Jan. 15th for the next one. I’ll send another email when we know for sure.
We decided to work on Donnybrook Fair for our next new tune. Kevin's going to get the sheetmusic to me for the version that he plays; I'll post it to the website after I get it from him.
I hope that everyone has a great Holiday Season!!! Speaking of that, playing Christmas tunes is a great way to get started on learning tunes by ear, since the melodies are already in your head. Here are a few examples (the starting points that I reference for each one are the easiest starting places for a whistle player).
~ “Joy to the World” (start on the 2nd octave D)
~ “Jingle Bells” (start on the 1st octave F#)
~ “Away in the Manger” (start on the 2nd octave D)
~ “O Come All Ye Faithful” (start on the 1st octave G)
~ “We Three Kings” (start on the 1st octave B)
~ “The Little Drummer Boy” (start on the lowest D)
Happy Holidays,
Thom Larson
