The Central
Illinois Celtic Arts
Society was formed to provide opportunities for people to discover, enjoy, and
participate in Celtic music and dance. We are bringing the Celtic Arts to
the Midwest by organizing and promoting educational and social events that
feature Celtic music and dance. It is evident that there is a genuine interest
in traditional music in this area.
Our open Monday night sessions
at The Lucca Grill in
Bloomington are attracting an ever-increasing audience, and hosting players not
only from Central Illinois, but from Chicago, Missouri, and Indiana.
Our first concert, featuring the acclaimed group Bohola, was well-attended and received, and audience members were excited about the next concert. Our second concert - Siúcra - was also extremely well received.
We host a "Slow Session" on the first and third Saturday of each month which will present an opportunity for beginning and experienced musicians alike to learn tunes and songs in the traditional way.
Our future plans include ceilidhs (dances), a WhistleFest, an annual Central Illinois Celtic Feis (festival), and the establishment of a certified school of Irish dance.
As you can see, we have ambitious plans, but the foundation has already been established through our sessions, the first concert, and community contacts. We have been very gratified to see that the community has shown such interest in and support of our efforts, and are hopeful that with the right publicity, CICAS will be a thriving and contributing part of Central Illinois's cultural scene
